My Story
In 2014 at the age of 45, I suffered a heart attack which resulted in Heart Failure. Whilst able to return to work and live an active life my symptoms progressively became worse and in 2022 I was referred to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle Upon Tyne for a Heart Transplant assessment. My health and general condition at the time meant I was not suitable for transplant but I required immediate medical treatment and intervention. In September 2022 I was implanted with a LVAD which was a life changer as well as life saver. After further assessment for transplant I was listed in August 2023 and on 1st Dec 2023 received my “Gift of life” in the Freeman Hospital. I returned home 4th January 24. I have since then become more vocal and active in promoting Heart failure awareness and the importance of signing The Organ Donation register and highlighting how crucial it is to “Have that conversation” with your loved ones, telling them of your wishes.
